8th Day: Maya Bay & more of Phi Phi Island

Updated: Feb 5

Yesterday evening we quickly booked the tour to Maya Bay including snorkeling and the Monkey Bay. We wanted to be there very early and paid a little more for it. The agency promised us few tourists there.

Very early in the morning...

After half an hour...on Ko Phi Phi Leh

Maya Bay

As on Phi Phi Island, the water comes later. Everything still looks a bit dreary and unfortunately it is cloudy. But we looked relaxed around, there is enough time.

The 2004 Tsunami hit Ko Phi Phi and here too.

A small path leads back to Loh Samah Bay.

Loh Samah Bay

Crabs

And slowly the water came...

This beach is world famous because it is the location of the film the Beach, which was filmed in 1999. Unfortunately, this beach was damaged by the redesign for the filming...the mass tourism etc. ultimately led to the closure so that nature can recover.

The Beach from the Beach...

Black Heron

On the right side of the beach you could walk onto a small beach...here tourists piled stones.

Time to snorkel.

Pi Leh Lagoon

The swell was a bit too strong but it was still fun.

After my last meeting I became a little more cautious, but these monkeys were very trusting.

So Monkey Bay...

Crab eating Monkey

Awesome!

Back on Phi Phi and up to...

Viewpoint 1

A real paradise of flora and fauna.

Spiral Ginger / Wasp spider / Bug

Christ thorn / Rose periwinkle

Jungle Flame / Goldtrumpet

Weaver Ants

The way to the 2nd viewpoint.

It was a bit exhausting in the heat and if I remember correctly you had to pay something at every viewpoint.

Viewpoint 2

And again my favorite spider, high up in the tree.

Millipede / Silk orb weaver

We went on to the 3rd viewpoint.

It was very hot but there was enough to see.

Flamingo flower / Pink Hibiscus

Red Junglefowl

Lobster claw

Pink Pineapple

Abandoned-web orb-weaver / Jumping spider

Once at the top, they wanted more money for the 3rd viewpoint...unfortunately we didn't have anything with us and we went back. It was really pity to ask for money again here. The climb was quite long and you didn't know beforehand.

Time for a little snack...

Later that evening we went through the village again and sat down in a Muay Thai bar. Today tourists should be able to fight each other there.

There were 2 waiters but only one came to us. The waiter took our order with a violet under his eye.

Yes, burger again. Since the garage (6th Day: Ao Yon Beach & The Garage) on Phuket I want to test them all. And all of them were very good.

Reggae Bar

Indeed, some tourists competed against each other...women too. You can find out more later on our videos.

But at the end there was a real fight or exhibition fight. Both waiters fought against each other as if there was no tomorrow. That was impressive, also because it contrasted with the previous tourists. The waiter's legs were so nimble, amazing. And now I also know why he had a violet.

When you sit close to the ring and see 2 real fighters...it makes you very different.

We enjoyed the show very much, the day was really great and everything was exhausting...but that doesn't matter, tomorrow morning it will continue and at the end of today, another beer.
