5th Day: Dana & Around Madaba at night

After a long night and a good sleep, today we'll look at Dana during the day and drive directly below the hotel to look for scorpions.

But first we take breakfast...

Dana Tower Hotel

From the terrace you have a beautiful view of everything and we will be down there in a moment.

So lets walk on the...

Sheq Al Reesh Trail

Cornelius looked further up and I looked at the lower part.

Look at this beautiful Plateau!

A little paradise and the searching was really fun.

Wolfspider & Velvet spider

We looked for half an hour, I turned a few stones, took a lot of photos and found a few Leiurus hebraeus. There was a small barbecue area for hikers and there were 1 stone here.

I sat down and then Cornelius came running down the mountain to me and shouted that he had found Nebo hierichonticus.

I stood up and looked at him...he was completely motivated and excited, stopped, turned the stone I was sitting on and what was underneath...

Chameleon

Unbelievable!

He was happy for a moment and ran back up the mountain to find more Nebo hierichonticus.

My goodness...I'm turning a bunch of stones, Cornelius just comes running, turns a single stone and finds something really great...again.

But I found a great natural toilet. Perfect for the wide squat.

I kept looking...

Centipede / Leiurus hebraeus

There were very, very many Scolopenders and a few Leiurus hebraeus. Also many wolf spiders and other insects.

And then I found the crevice and the passage to the other side. I was very curious to see what was behind it.

Probably the most beautiful view and the most beautiful place I have ever been.

I sat down and enjoyed the peace and quiet!

The birds flew through the valley, the wind blew lightly and the sunrays gave the landscape a certain atmosphere.

I felt at home and comfortable here. Everything here is untouched, like on Earth's first day...primal and prehistoric, and for a moment I thought a dinosaur was about to appear. This feeling of belonging here didn't go away, it stayed.

A place to die...and I decided at that moment to spend the last day of my life here. I have never been to a place that had such an attraction and a feeling of well-being for me.

Well, I couldn't rest here forever and I kept looking because it was getting dark.

Steven's meadow saffron

We went up and took a few more pictures.

See you soon beautiful Dana Biosphere Reserve!

We drove to Madaba to rent our accommodation and later look for scorpions.

The sun set early in November. That was very good because you could search longer at night.

Route for today

Later around Madaba...

Centipede

We was on a small river here. The humidity was very high like in Thailand. It looked like a little jungle. Similar trees and nature. Very impressive.

And amazingly we found there Nebo hierichonticus on the trees and in cracks in the walls.

Nebo hierichonticus

On a hill next to the river there were a lot of Scorpio maurus palmatus. They all looked out of the caves, everything was glowing, but as soon as you were close they scurried away. It's crazy how many there were. They had the whole hill to themselves.

Scorpio maurus palmatus

We drove a few kilometers further along the river and continued to search. The search was really very difficult because of the humidity...hard to believe.

Nebo hierichonticus

Here they were in cracks in the wall and between rocks. Very large specimens.

We also found Compsobuthus sp. & Leiurus hebraeus...but not many.

A local came to us and asked what we do. He was very interested and invited us to tea. But it was already very late and we drove home. We said that we might be able to come over in the next few days.

Tomorrow is another long day!
