5th Day: Jerez de la Frontera & Seville

Updated: Feb 18

Finally in Sherry town! It's going to be a great day Jerez de la Frontera & Seville.

Plaza del Arenal

But before that let’s take a look at the beautiful market hall.

Mercado Central de Abastos

A great market with a nice authentic atmosphere. You immediately feel comfortable. Everything is beautifully designed and the sellers are just nice and friendly. Really close to nature and real.

Outside the weather is still good. Its 39°!

Plaza del Arenal

We sat down and I tried a sherry out of sheer anticipation, along with a beer and a snack.

Arenal 15 Restaurant

It was a Fino Sherry - very dry, spicy and herbal. It was difficult to drink it in the morning and also the 0.5l beer. My eyes were too big, I had to force everything in and I was a little drunk when we walked to the sherry tour...

Catedral de Jerez de la Frontera

Here we are...

Gonzales Byass Bodega

Manuel María González Ángel is the founder of González Byass.

He was also the first exporter of sherry.

So lets walk inside...

Many stars have been here...Malkovich, Spielberg etc.

We were taken into a room and watched a short film about the history of the bodega.

We continued through the huge halls.

First Hall

Out through the corridor to the next hall.

Very beautiful.

Sherry in barrel aging. Here you can clearly see how much sherry was poured in. As it matures, the sherry diminishes.

A few barrels of prominent people...

Bottles of the beginning.

And on to the Bodega Mice. For whom there is always some sherry available. And that's really the case.

We go back to the tasting, the restaurant to try various sherries. This path here is really beautiful.

We had dry fino, medium dry and sweet sherry. Simply tasty.

Next door was a bodega shop where you could buy plenty of sherry and a lot of other things and it was also quite cheap.

We paid 15,50€ for this tour and it was well worth it.

We booked an accommodation not far from Seville. A small quiet village.

Sanlucar la Mayor

For one night we paid 33€.

Off to Seville for something to eat in...

Mercado Lonja del Barranco

There are many different Food-stalls here that offer all kinds of spanish food.

And of course Sherry...

We really had eaten too much but it was all so delicious and beautiful.

So, Seville by night.

Catedral de Sevilla

Seville is really very beautiful, clean and safe. Lots of beautiful streets and alleys. Tomorrow we'll see Seville during the day.

And because the day was so beautiful, we went looking for scorpions in the village of Sanlucar la Mayor tonight. We found some in small caves right next to the train tracks. They were very shy and difficult to photograph.
